Psychopathology of the Hospitalized Leukemic Patients

Abstract

|
|
Patients with first-onset leukemia were evaluated for their psychiatric status. Among patients admitted to the hematoncology unit of St. Mary's Hospital and diagnosed as leukemia were interviewed by psychiatrists in accord with DSM-III-R
criteria.
Also,
their general psychological status were evaluated using Symptom Check List-90-Revision. And these results were compared with that of the 27 age and sex matched controls. Forty-three leukemic patients received psychiatric diagnoses, which were
adjustment
disorder (26%), major depression(14%), and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder(3%). The general psychiatric status of the patients were turned out to be more pathological compared to the control group.
